This Guidewire training course is designed for all developers who will be configuring or integrating Guidewire applications such as ClaimCenter, BillingCenter, and PolicyCenter.

Policy Center:
Policy Center stores information about a policy and manages a set of processes that, if completed successfully, result in changes to the policy. Examples of policy changes are: creation of a new policy, renewal of a policy for a new term, or cancellation of a policy. As a result of each policy transaction (such as adding an additional driver to an auto policy), the system determines the price of the transaction. If successfully completed, Policy Center forwards this pricing information to a billing system. The pricing information is also important for reporting to regulators.
In Policy Center, you can tailor your products. Before you can use Policy Center to manage policies, you must first define your product line. In other words, what products are you going to offer? Products are the first level of the product model hierarchy. Carriers or agents sell these products (such as personal auto or workers’ compensation policies) to customers. Each individual policy is an instance of a product. Therefore, personal auto, business owners, and workers’ compensation are all products.
While Policy Center comes with certain lines of business, it is flexible. You can customize the default lines of business to meet your business needs. You can also create your own lines of business in Guidewire Product Designer. (Policy Center includes Product Designer.)
How do you configure Policy Center? Use Guidewire Studio as the integrated development environment (IDE) to configure PolicyCenter to meet your business needs. In Studio, you can control workflow, policy transactions, PCF screens, typelists, rules, and Gosu.
How are lines different from products? For example, general liability and commercial property are both lines. If you represent a business, you can buy a general liability product, which just includes the general liability line. Then you can buy a commercial property product, which includes just the commercial property line. However, you can also buy a commercial package product, which may include both the general liability and commercial property lines. Commercial package is a multi-line product, as opposed to a monoline product. Conversely, an insurer can sell multiple products, each of which includes the same line or lines. A product can be targeted to a particular group. For example, an insurer can offer a commercial package for shopping centers, one for hotels, and one for universities.
How do you manage policies? You create and manage policies through a web interface. On this virtual Desktop, you create policy transactions (or jobs) that process policies in various ways. Through policy transactions, you can submit, issue, change, renew, cancel, reinstate, rewrite, and audit policies.
Types of policy transactions include: submission, issuance, policy change, renewal, cancellation, reinstate, rewrite, and audit.

Claim center:

Claim Center is a web-based enterprise software application designed to manage the process of reporting, verifying, and making payments on claims against a policy. It manages the claims process from first notice of loss through execution of financial transactions, including the payment and setting of reserves. This insurance claims management system also manages claims information and coordinates the claims process to ensure compliance with corporate policies and claims best practices. Claim Center functionality includes:
•Group-based ownership of claims and claim sub objects – Enables assignment of objects to users based on the group they are in, as well as user access to an object based on who owns the object.
•Claim maturity – A set of rules that automatically manage the claim’s maturity level. Particular attention is paid to whether the claim can be paid out or not and whether activities are prevented if the claim is not yet payable.
Claim financials – Enables management of the finances involved in a claim. Financials include setting aside money for expected payments (reserves), issuing payments (checks), tracking recovery opportunities, and requiring approval for financial activity in excess of a given user’s authority.
Address book integration – Enables sharing of vendor contact information across claims. If Policy Center is installed and integrated, you can also manage client contact information in a central address book database. Guidewire provides an address book application called Contact Manager that can be integrated with Claim Center. Workspace to manage claims process – Adjusters and supervisors use a workspace to manage the claims process, whether they are connected to or disconnected from the corporate network. Many routine tasks are automated.
•Distributed collaboration – Claim Center manages distributed participants such as fraud investigation units, auto repair shops, and claimants.
•Activity coordination – Adjusters and supervisors manage activities on open claims being managed by a group of adjusters at any given time. Claim Center tracks critical activities and coordinates the distribution of work on a claim across people inside and outside the organization.

  • Worker and claim management– Claim Center ensures that supervisors are aware of claims and activities in their groups in real time.

Billing center:

Billing Center is a web-based billing system and an enterprise software application that coordinates, executes, and records receivables and transactions. Billing Center manages the full life cycle from billing instruction to close. In addition to providing a complete billing and receivables management system, Billing Center also handles several customer service functions, such as automated dispute and delinquency processing.
Billing Center manages the end-to-end billing processes, including complex and customized billing arrangements (such as group, list, or mortgage billing and multi-payer or multi-location billing).
Billing Center receives billing instructions from either Guidewire Policy Center or another external policy administration system (PAS) and determines the amounts due on a policy or account. It receives payments from customers and producers and manages payment distribution. It also handles commissions payable to producers. Although the policy administration system is the system of record for the account, Billing Center maintains client data for billing purposes.
In addition, Billing Center determines how to manage receipts, disbursements, audits, commissions, customer messaging, exceptions, and adjustments, and provides accounting system support. It supports accounts of all sizes and types, and integrates seamlessly with policy, lockbox, document management, document production, check writing, payment processing, and general ledger systems.
